COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - With a Tornado Watch issued earlier in the day and heavy rain and thunderstorms throughout the day, the Coldwater High athletic department has cancelled all sporting events and practices for Thursday.  That incudes the softball doubleheader against Jackson Northwest, the baseball action at Mattawan, and the soccer matches at Jackson Northwest. The Coldwater Golf Invitational was played earlier in the day, but cut short due to the storms. Bronson, Union City, and Quincy also cancelled all of their evening sports activities.

In Branch County high school sports from Wednesday, in boy’s golf, Coldwater had a fifth place finish out of six teams in the first SMAC East Jamboree of the season hosted by Sturgis at the Island Hills Golf Course. Coldwater was led by Nick Waterbury and Scout Case who both fired 45's, Nathan Waterbury and Stephan Boston each carded 48's, Keegan Dwyer shot a 51 and Dreke Lutterbeck had a 57 to round out the scoring for the Cardinals with a team total of 186. Battle Creek Lakeview won the Jamboree firing a team score of 151.

Yesterday in track, Bronson’s boy’s and girl’s teams swept to victory at home in a St. Joe Valley Conference meet with White Pigeon. The Vikings won the boy’s competition 94-to-42. Double winners for Bronson were Jordan Alger in the high jump and 440 yard dash; Scott Wyant in the 100 and 220 yard dash; and Matt Cosby in the mile and two mile run. The Vikings also took 3 out of the 4 relay races.

In the girl’s meet, Bronson beat White Pigeon 88-to-38. Mariah Roberts was a triple winner in the long jump, 100 yard dash and 330 hurdles while Samantha Reed won the shot put and discus.

Today on the Coaches Corner, it’s Union City baseball coach John Bain.
