The Tigers lost their fourth in-a-row yesterday when Mark Trumbo lifted a solo shot in the bottom of the 13th inning to give the Angels a 4-3 win and a three-game sweep of the Tigers at Anaheim.
The defeat dropped Detroit to 9-and-9 with the Tigers idle today before opening a 3-game series at home tomorrow night against Kansas City, which leads the American League Central by a game over the Twins and a game-and-a-half over Detroit.
Trumbo connected to lead off the 13th against Phil Coke, who had tossed two scoreless innings of relief before being tagged with the loss. Prince Fielder’s two-run homer in the fifth for Detroit tied the game at 3-3. Tiger’s starter Doug Fister allowed 3 runs and six hits in seven innings, but he also hit 3 batters and Detroit three times left the bases loaded while batting just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
