COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - The Branch County Prosecutor’s office has authorized charges against a couple from Sherwood after they allegedly fled from police in Coldwater in a pickup truck on the city’s east side Monday afternoon following a reported fraudulent attempt to obtain prescription drugs. Authorities said they were alerted by Walgreens of the situation and when police arrived to investigate, they say that’s when the suspects took off. When they neared Willowbrook Road, the woman driving the truck pulled into the Red Roof Inn parking lot and stopped and the man entered the motel. The building was surrounded with the help of Sheriff’s Deputies and the State Police. The suspect was located a short time later hiding in a second story furnace room and arrested.
25-year old Vonnie Lynn Shepard faces fleeing and eluding charges and a count of fourth degree child abuse. Police say her young son was a passenger in the vehicle. And the charges against 24-year old Matthew Singleton are resisting and obstructing, fleeing and eluding, and 3 misdemeanor counts of uttering and publishing. No injuries were reported.
