DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Backed by three solo home runs the Tigers have now won a season-high seven in a row after defeating the Chicago White Sox 3-0 on Saturday night.

Torii Hunter and Jhonny Peralta went deep in the first and second innings respectively and Jose Iglesias hit his first home run as Tiger in the fourth for the Tigers’ final run.

Max Scherzer was at his best as he allowed just three hits while striking out six over seven plus innings innings of work to pick up his MLB best 16th win. Scherzer has struck out five or more in all 22 of his starts this year. He was replaced in the eighth inning with two outs by Jose Veras who recorded the final out. Joaquin Benoit closed out the game for his 12th save.

John Danks (2-9) suffered the loss for the White Sox who have dropped nine in a row.

Miguel Cabrera sat out his second game in a row as he still deals with hip and abdomen issues.

The Tigers will look for the series sweep on Sunday afternoon as Rick Porcello (8-6, 4.49 ERA) goes for his fifth win in a row. He will be opposed by White Sox rookie Andre Rienzo (0-0, 0.00). Rienzo has made one start this season and allowed no runs in seven innings against the Cleveland Indians on July 30th. First pitch is set for 1:08.
