ANN ARBOR, MI (WTVB) - The American Civil Liberties Union is suing Ann Arbor Schools for their plan to charge parents $100 extra for a “7th-hour” of instruction. The district says the state only requires 6-hours. The ACLU says if it counts toward graduation and uses the same books and teachers then it should be free. The ACLU says if Ann Arbor can charge for this, than it would open the gates for districts to charge for anything, creating a 2-tier education system, one for the rich and one for the poor.
