COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - U.S. 12 in Coldwater may or may not be in for some changes when it comes to speed limits and lane setups, but whatever the Michigan Department of Transportation says is the best way to promote driver’s safety, the City of Coldwater will have to live with MDOT’s recommendations. The Coldwater City Council last night agreed unanimously to ask the state to conduct a speed study of U.S. 12. The Council discussed the issue for about a half hour with input from City Manager Jeff Budd, City Engineer Charlie Bauschard and Department of Public Safety Director Mark Bartell.
Bauschard told the Council he’s fairly confident they’ll get it right for the sake of safety for motorists regarding the proper lane arrangements and speed. He believes the risk of MDOT returning a report that would negatively impact the city is low and while some people may not like the study results, the public will be best served by the research conclusions.
