COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, the 2013 football season kicks off in just 16 days and yesterday was the first day of practice, although for Coldwater, it was more than that. The Cardinals, under second year head coach Jeff Schorfhaar, are now at training camp. The varsity and j-v teams left Monday afternoon for the camp being held at Lake Luther, Indiana, northwest of Angola. It runs through Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. Schorfhaar says it’s a real opportunity for the players to interact with their teammates and coaches without other distractions. And to that end, the players are not allowed to have their cellphones while at the camp. The Cardinals have a scrimmage scheduled for next week on Thursday at Vicksburg and then the season opening varsity contest is Thursday August 29th ahead of Labor Day weekend at St. Joseph and we’ll have that game on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 for our opening high school sports broadcast of the fall season.
Tryouts and practices for the rest of the Fall Sports programs, including boys soccer, volleyball, boy’s tennis , girl’s golf and cross country, start tomorrow
