ALGANSEE TOWNSHIP, BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) - A farmer’s fertilizer tanker truck rolled over into a culvert yesterday afternoon along Stringtown Road in Branch County’s Algansee Township. It happened around 4:45 pm north of Grove Road. By the time public safety, including the Quincy Fire Department, arrived on scene, the truck driver was already gone, reportedly taken by private vehicle to the hospital to be checked out. The rescue crews at first didn’t know that and judging by the heavy damage to the truck cab, suspected that the driver was probably badly hurt. They soon learned otherwise and went about investigating the crash. Apparently, the farmer, who was hauling pig manure, was being followed by his brother in another vehicle when the accident occurred.
Michigan State Police are handling the report on the incident and they haven’t provided any names or a news release. About 8,000 gallons of the liquid leaked from the tanker into the drainage ditch.
