HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) - The first candidate has surfaced to run next year for Michigan’s 58th District State House seat to succeed Representative Ken Kurtz, the Republican from Coldwater whose stay in Lansing will be ending due to term limits. Brad Benzing announced his G-O-P candidacy today for the district that includes Branch and Hillsdale Counties. Benzing has been a Hillsdale County resident for 43 years and lives in Woodbridge Township with his wife Pam. In 2012, Brad was elected to a third term on the Hillsdale County Board of Commissioners. He has owned and operated a retail appliance sales and service store in Hillsdale since 1984, and he and his wife own and operate a family farm they started in 1997. He also serves as a volunteer firefighter and medical first responder.
In a news release, Benzing said, “I’m running for State Representative to stand up for the cities, towns and villages, the small businesses, the farms, and families of Branch and Hillsdale Counties. Government has become too large, too dysfunctional. We need more effective voices to protect our conservative values”.
