ALLEN PARK,MI (WTVB) - The Lions Monday cut loose Mike Thomas, the wide receiver they traded for last October in a deal with Jacksonville. Thomas leaves with Detroit still owing him 1-million dollars in guaranteed salary from the 1.45 million dollar contract he signed with the Lions reportedly giving up a fifth round draft pick in the transaction. Safety Louis Delmas yesterday took part in practice drills for the first time in two weeks and said he’s his injured knee is feeling good enough that he wants to be on the field Thursday when Detroit plays its third pre-season game hosting the New England Patriots.

Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said that star wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who missed last Thursday’s game in Cleveland with a bruised knee, and was out of practice Sunday and yesterday, is day to day and they don’t know yet if he’ll be back for the matchup against New England.
