Ahead of Labor Day, gas prices jump about a quarter in Branch County

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Gas prices have jumped between 20 and 25-cents a gallon at many stations in Branch County and across Southwest Michigan as we approach Labor Day and the end of summer season. The reason is anyone’s guess but it may have something to do with a rise in crude oil prices to over $107  a barrel because the tension in Egypt and the threat that oil shipments through the Suez Canal could be interrupted.

There are also reports from the Energy Information Agency of a 1.4-million barrel drop in crude oil inventories, and a 4-million barrel decline in gasoline inventories in the U.S. Many area stations are charging around $3.69 a gallon today.
