VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WTVB) - An off duty traffic crash has taken the life of a Michigan State Police motor carrier officer. Officials say Dennis Myers was removed from life support early today at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. Myers was critically injured in a rollover accident that happened a week ago yesterday just west of Decatur on Van Buren County Road 352. According to police, Myers was wearing his seat belt and was alone in the Honda Civic that landed on its roof. Investigators said there was no evidence of alcohol being a factor in the crash.
Myers was assigned to the Paw Paw post and was an 11-year veteran of the MSP. In 2010, he was named Motor Carrier Officer of the Year. Myers is survived by his wife and two sons, ages 9 and 11. Michigan State Police said his organs were donated through the Gift of Life.
