UPDATE: Coldwater Police still looking for smash-and-grab credit card thief, victim takes to Facebook to ask for help

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - At last word, Coldwater Police were still searching for a man who pulled off a smash-and-grab style larceny Monday on the city’s east side. And the victim of the crime has taken to Facebook to join the plea by police asking the public to help identify and locate the suspect in the case. It happened at Great Lakes Health and Fitness where the victim had left her purse on the seat of her car while she went in to exercise. When she returned to her vehicle shortly after 10 a.m. she found the side window broken out and her purse missing. Police believe the suspect used her credit card a short time later at the Walmart in Coldwater.

One of the store’s surveillance cameras was able to snap a photo of the unknown suspect and police are releasing the picture, hoping someone might be able to identify the man. If you know who this person is, you should contact Corporal Fred Pyles of the Coldwater Police Department at 278-4525. Authorities say you should always lock your car when you park it, and store valuable items such as purses, cell phones, GPS units and money out of sight.

Police say the crime on Monday is a reminder that thieves rarely go to the trouble of breaking into a car that does not have something of value sitting in plain sight.
