LANSING (WTVB) - State Representative Ken Kurtz of Coldwater on Friday issued a news release with a statement regarding his legislation, House Bill 4928, which is part of a package of bills to protect the freedom of faith-based adoption agencies.
According to Kurtz, agencies in other states were forced to close their doors when presented with the choice between protecting their values and providing adoption or foster care services. Kurtz said he doesn’t want to see that happen in Michigan. Kurtz believes our current system and agency partnership with the state works well and he hopes to see this system protected long past his tenure. As such, this legislation, according to Kurtz, will ensure that the diversity of agencies and the choice for adoptive parents are protected moving forward. Kurtz vowed to continue to work with the Michigan Department of Human Services to ensure that the protection for agencies puts Michigan's children first. He said he’s looking forward to presenting soon the final version of the bill in committee.
