COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Branch County’s jobless rate held fairly steady this fall, but the latest figure of 8.5% is 1% higher than at the same time a year ago. Two months of numbers were released yesterday after the September data was delayed because of October’s partial federal government shutdown. The 8.5% jobless rate was for October. In September, it was 8.3% and for August, 8.6%. Last year in October, 429 more people were employed in the county compared to this year.
Ten months into 2013, the number of workers is just over 17,000 from a jobs force of around 18,600. An inside look into all of this data will be available along with much more information about dollars and sense in the county and where we’re headed at this week’s Branch County Economic Summit which is happening Friday from 10 am until 3 pm at the Community Health Center’s Community Care and Conference Center in Coldwater
