COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Coldwater City Manager Jeff Budd and his staff are recommending a Grand Rapids firm as the construction manager for the Dr. Robert W. Browne Aquatic and Recreation Centers. Budd will be asking the City Council at their meeting coming up Monday night to approve Rockford Construction as the construction manager for the estimated $16.1 million dollar facility with the Rockford contract portion totaling $14.7 million dollars. The City had hoped that work on the facility would have been underway by now but a variety of issues including revised cost projections prompted the delay which also brought the decision to keep the Heritage Park swimming pool in operation for another year.
Budd said Rockford Construction was selected based upon their experience with aquatic and recreation centers, reputation and finally, price. They reduced their management fee to 2%, which was significantly lower than the other candidates. Budd added that the Grand Rapids Business Journal ranked them the #1 contractor and green builder in West Michigan while Engineering News-Record magazine has continually ranked Rockford as one of the top 400 contractors in the nation continuously since 2004.
