COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Decorating for the Christmas holidays is one of the most fun and festive parts of the season, but the health department in Coldwater says who knew that some of those beautiful decorations could possibly pose a threat to you and your children? Estimates from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission show that 15,000 people in the US were injured and visited an emergency department in November and December of 2012 due to holiday decorating mishaps.
The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency suggests that you consider these prevention tips while “Decking the Halls” of your home for the holidays so you can spend your holiday time being hospitable instead of being hospitalized. The safety suggestions concern Christmas trees, lights and candles, plants, and food allergies. The health department says seeing a beautiful tree and your home lit up with lights is one of the endearing parts of the holiday season but remember safety first to keep everyone out of harm’s way when decorating your home.
