COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports last night, in wrestling, Coldwater earned a split in its SMAC East quad meet at Battle Creek Central. The Cardinals defeated Central 38-33 while they lost to Battle Creek Lakeview 45-26. Going 2-0 on the night for Coldwater were Mohamed Aljabaly and Austin Siegel.
Also in wrestling, in a Big Eight Conference opener, Quincy was a winner at Union City 40-30. Posting pins for the visiting Orioles were Kalieb Miller, Dalton Hard and Chris Connin while Hunter Winger earned a major decision. Quincy improved its overall record to 3-8.
Wednesday night in gymnastics, Coldwater lost in a conference match at Tecumseh 115.3 to 112.45. The defeat dropped the Lady Cardinals to 1-1 in conference action and 1-4 overall. Coldwater opened the competition on the uneven bars with the host Indians winning the event. Amanda Daoud led the way with a second place finish at 6.4. The Lady Cardinals then dominated the vault, scoring 32.6 to take the lead in the match with the Daoud sisters making their mark by finishing first and second. Amanda stuck her landing to take the win at 8.45 and Jenny was right behind with her mark of 8.35 and that gave Jenny four qualifiers to allow her to compete in the vault at the regionals. Becca Harmon took fourth place with a solid 8.0, collecting her final score to also give her a berth in the post season. Next was the floor exercise with Amanda Daoud the top score for the Lady Cardinals at 7.65. Then in the final event on the balance beam, Amanda earned her fourth individual score and claimed third place with a 7.5 stuck routine. In the all-around competition, Amanda Daoud was runner-up while Harmon finished fourth. Coldwater’s next competition will be after the holiday break on January 4 in Rockford.
Tonight in high school sports, there’s a Branch County matchup in boys basketball with Quincy at Union City. And the reserve hoops schedule includes Coldwater against Gull Lake with the girls action in Coldwater while the boys play at Gull Lake. The girls freshman tip off at 4:15 with the junior varsity game set for 5:45. The Coldwater-Gull Lake varsity games are in Coldwater tomorrow night and we’ll have doubleheader coverage on the radio beginning at 5:30 with the girls while the boys game is scheduled to start at 7:15.

In middle school sports, in boys basketball, Bronson finished up its season by splitting at home against Niles Brandywine. The Vikings won the eighth grade game over Brandywine 35-28 with nine points for Courtney Salesman. Bronson lost the seventh grade game 27-26 with six points for Brett Sikorski.
