KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) - Just how much colder and snowier has this December been? A lot, according to Dr. Robert Ruhf, a meteorologist senior research associate in the Western Michigan University Mallinson Institute for Science Education. He says snowfall varies from area to area, heavier in communities near Lake Michigan and all above average.
Ruhf says the early arrival of winter weather could also mean an early end to the snow if the big lake freezes over and disrupts the lake effect snow cycle. The winter solstice officially arrives early this afternoon, but someone forgot to tell old man winter who some may feel has already begun to overstay his welcome.
