Coldwater hosts two day high school Holiday Hoops tournament beginning today

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, in boy’s and girls basketball, the fifth annual Cardinal Holiday Hoops tournament tips off this afternoon in Coldwater with two days of action and a total of 16 varsity and junior varsity games. All of the varsity contests will be played in the new gym with the j-v games in the old C-H-S gymnasium. The tip-off times apply to both the varsity and j-v contests.

It starts this afternoon at 1:30 with the girls playing first with Carlton Airport vs. Fremont. Then at 3:15, it’s the boys turn with Fremont against Dexter.  Next up, the girls return to action with Coldwater vs. Niles scheduled for 5 p.m. and then to wrap things up, it’s the boys on the courts with the host Cardinals taking on Eaton Rapids, scheduled for 6:45. We’ll have this evening’s Coldwater varsity games on the radio with our live coverage on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 beginning at 4:45 p.m. when we’ll also be streaming the audio on-line at wtvbam.com.

In between the girls and boys varsity action, we’ll bring you the ceremonies for the induction of the newest members into the CHS Athletic Hall of Fame with the honors this year going to coach Tom Sweitzer, Aaron Tagert, and the Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary. The same game times are in effect for tomorrow’s play beginning with the girl’s consolation games at 1:30 pm. Our radio coverage and times on Saturday will depend on how Coldwater fares in the first round action.

Also on the holiday tournament schedule for today, in boys and girls basketball, it’s Portage Northern at Bronson and then tomorrow, Bronson wraps up tournament play at Sturgis.
