COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - The basketball courts came alive throughout the region with high school holiday tournament action.

Starting off with the 5th Annual Cardinal Holiday Hoops Tournament, on the boys side, Coldwater picked up its first win of the season, defeating Eaton Rapids 70-62 in a game we had for you on the radio. The Greyhounds enjoyed a 12-10 edge in the first quarter, but the Cardinals came alive with a 16-6 second to take a 26-18 halftime lead. Coldwater outscored Eaton Rapids in the third 23-15, with the Greyhounds winning the fourth quarter 29-21 as their comeback attempt fell short despite 6 triples made by Jared McDaniel, who led all scorers with 34. Logan Targgart led the Cardinals with a career-high 26 points, while Ryan Mock, our McDonald's Player of the Game, had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Coldwater improves to 1-3 on the season. The Cardinals will take on Dexter tonight for the boys varsity championship; the Dreadnaughts beat Fremont 63-44. Tip-off is at 6:45; our live coverage will begin tonight at 6:30.

Before the Eaton Rapids-Coldwater game, the newest members of the CHS Athletic Hall of Fame were inducted in ceremonies we broadcast on WTVB. Congratulations once again go out to longtime Coldwater wrestling coach Tom Sweitzer, three-sport standout Aaron Tagert, and as honorary members, the Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary club.
