BUSINESS BEAT: Area store donates to pediatric patients for the holidays

COLDWATER,MI (WTVB) - The holiday season is about giving and that’s just what the owners and employees at AJ’s Butler Store wanted to do.  On Friday, December 20, 2013, Dan Weaver, owner of AJ’s Butler Store; Kristen VanLue, store manager; and VanLue’s daughter, Mayson, stopped by the CHC Pediatric Unit to donate a bag full of Christmas presents for pediatric patients.

The presents were donated by patrons of their store over a few weeks.  The idea for the gift drive came from Dan Weaver’s wife, Patricia Weaver.  “We wanted to do something nice for the community and CHC,” stated Dan.  “We were surprised by the number of people that wanted to donate.”  AJ’s Butler Store is located in Homer, Michigan.

The CHC Pediatric Unit is always amazed at the generosity of others and especially during the holidays.  The stuffed animals and toys are always welcome and the young patients are happy to receive such a nice gift.  “The staff and patients on the pediatric unit appreciate the generous donation from AJ’s Butler Store,” stated Sue Pierce, RN, Director of Surgical/Pediatrics Unit.  “Having a soft animal to cuddle with or a fun toy to play with is very soothing to a child who is not feeling well and in a hospital room.”

The CHC Pediatric Unit focuses on children with acute care needs. Patient care providers include registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, nurse externs, nursing assistants, unit secretaries, unit technicians, physicians, respiratory technicians, physical therapy personnel, pastoral care personnel, discharge planning staff, radiology technicians, laboratory staff, dietitians, and pharmacists. Through generous donations, pediatric rooms are decorated to make a child feel more at home. CHC’s goal is to make a child as comfortable as possible while admitted to the hospital.
