TEKONSHA, MI (WTVB) - Police may have solved a bank robbery in Tekonsha, in making an arrest in another attempted robbery. Last Friday Calhoun County Sheriff detectives and federal officials were contacted by Allegan County Sheriff detectives and advised that a 59-year-old South Bend, Indiana man was arrested in Allegan County in connection with an attempted bank robbery.
Allegan detectives believed the suspect was connected to other bank robberies in Southern Michigan and Northern Indiana. Detectives have determined that it appears the suspect was involved in the June 28, 2013 bank robbery in the Village of Tekonsha at the Southern Michigan Bank and Trust branch. Detectives believe the suspect parked his car near the boat launch of the St. Joseph River near the intersection of Old 27 and W Drive South. The suspect rode a bicycle during the robbery and loaded it in his car and fled.
As a result of the information, detectives searched the suspect's home in South Bend, Indiana and a recreational vehicle in Edwardsburg, Michigan. Calhoun County Detectives are working with FBI agents to determine charges. The suspect is currently being held at the Allegan County Jail.
