COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - 2013 is the golden anniversary of the Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater providing professional summer stock theatre for southern Michigan and northern Indiana and the Tibbits on Friday announced its lineup of shows that will highlight the 50th year of summer performances.
The season will open June 27th with “Greater Tuna,” which continues through July Sixth. It’s described as a fast paced satire on rural America in which two actors depict all the characters in the third smallest town in Texas. Next up is the first of two Tony Award winning musicals, “Fiddler on the Roof,” which will run July 11th through July 20th. The next presentation for July 25th through August 3rd, will be “The Producers,” a show in the true Mel Brooks fashion, a musical the Tibbits says is both politically incorrect and outrageously fun. The summer of celebration closes with the comedy “The Foreigner”, a story featuring a shy, young man who pretends to speak no English but overhears enough dirt in a rural Georgia lodge to turn lives and sinister plans upside down. The show runs from August 8th to the 17th.
Popcorn Theatre will again offer live theatre opportunities for families every Friday and Saturday morning from June 21st through August 10th. Popcorn theatre titles will be announced in March. Season tickets for the four main shows are now on sale at Tibbits administrative offices at 93 West Chicago St or by calling 517-278-6029. Individual tickets go on sale March 1st.
