DETROIT (WKZO) -- A former Detroit Police officer who was accused of beating a man to death in a drug house in 1992 has died. Larry Nevers and his partner Walter Budzyn were charged and convicted of beating Malice Green with their flashlights.
A medical report showed that Green had cocaine in his system and died from an enlarged heart while struggling with police. Nevers's conviction on involuntary manslaughter was overturned by the Court of Appeals but reinstated by the Michigan Supreme Court.
Nevers fell ill with cancer while in jail and was released in 2001 to serve the rest of his sentence in his home. He died Sunday at the age of 72.
