The Baltimore Ravens were able to overcome a power outage and survive a San Francisco comeback, holding off the 49ers 34-to-31 to win Super Bowl 47 at the Superdome in New Orleans.
Joe Flacco tossed for 287 yards and three first-half touchdowns for the Ravens and was named the game's MVP. Baltimore had a 22 point lead early in the third quarter after a 108-yard kickoff return for a score and then America’s biggest sporting event came to a 34-minute standstill when most of the stadium’s lights and scoreboards went dark.
Following the blackout, it turned into a shootout when the momentum shifted to San Francisco. Late in the fourth quarter with the Ravens clinging to a 34-to-29 lead, the 49’ers had 4 cracks at the end zone from the Baltimore seven yard line to go ahead but couldn’t connect.
San Francisco argued there was pass interference on the incomplete fourth down pass that turned the ball back to the Ravens and their goal line stand essentially ended the game. Afterwards, the head coaching brothers, Baltimore’s john harbaugh and san Francisco’s jim harbaugh shook hands and later, john saluted his younger brother The Ravens capture their second Lombardi trophy in franchise history following their first world title in 2000 again the final Baltimore 34 San Francisco 31 in Super Bowl 47. Next year, the big game will be at MetLife Stadium with the New York-New Jersey area hosting the league’s first ever outdoor game in a cold weather market
