COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Law enforcement response in Branch County was put to the test late yesterday afternoon. There were more than a dozen slide off or rollover traffic crashes on I-69 in the southern part of the county at a time when no road patrol deputies from the county were on duty because of major budget cuts at the Sheriff’s Department.
However, a beefed up State Police presence was able to handle the busy accident scene. No serious injuries were reported. Troopers had four different squad cars servicing the complaints. The calls started to come into 9-1-1 Central Dispatch at about 5:15 p.m. and an hour later, 13 different incidents had to be checked out. The heavy snow showers that rushed through the area ended for the most part before eight o’clock last night.
