LANSING (WKZO) -- Medical marijuana dispensaries in the state are not legal, according to a ruling by the Michigan Supreme Court.

The high court ruled by a four to two margin that the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act of 2008 only protects registered caregivers and qualified patients.  There are approximately 126-thousand approved marijuana users in the state and they will now have to grow their own pot or go to a state-licensed grower to get the drug.

The ruling also said it is illegal for one patient to transfer their use of medical marijuana to another.
