Attorney General appeals sentences of former Michigan Congressman McCotter aides

LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan Attorney Bill Schuette has appealed the dismissal of felony charges against two former campaign ads of ex-U.S. Congressman Thaddeus McCotter.

A judge dismissed the charges against former McCotter campaign Deputy Director Don Yowchang of Farmington Hills and former District Director Paul Seewald of Livonia.  Their prosecutions came in the wake of an election petition scandal that kept McCotter off of last year's primary ballot.

The attorney general charged that Yowchang, Seewald and two other staffers copied and altered petitions in order to get McCotter's name on the ballot.  Yowchang and Seewald were given probation, ordered to do community service and repay all court costs and fees.
