BRONSON, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, last night in state tournament wrestling, Bronson captured the Decatur Division Four team Regional title, sending the Vikings onto Battle Creek for the championship weekend beginning a week from tomorrow at Kellogg Arena.
Bronson was the only county team to advance out of last week’s district competition and the Vikings got the regional matchup they wanted to avenge their ouster from last year’s tournament. In last night’s semi-finals, Bronson took 12 of the 14 matches in beating Niles-Brandywine 69-to-9. In the other semi-final, Constantine took out Lawton 40-to-25. That set up the title match between the seventh-ranked Vikings and the fourth-ranked Falcons, who last year eliminated Bronson in the regional final.
However, this time, it was the Vikings who punched their ticket to Battle Creek with a 40-to-18 victory over Constantine. Earning pin wins for Bronson against the Chiefs were Jake Littlefield, Hunter Machus, and Brandon Losinski while Kahle Scheenks posted a major decision. The Vikings also got decision wins from JuKoada Sexton and Jordan Jimenez and were awarded points on forfeits going to Thomas Littlefield and Wes Disbro.
The Division Four team quarterfinals are set for 5:30 p.m. on Friday February 22nd at Kellogg Arena with the semi-finals and finals on Saturday, the 23rd. The quarterfinal pairings will be announced following the MHSAA seed meeting this Sunday.
