Governor's proposed tax increase for road repairs facing opposition

Potholes On A Road
Potholes On A Road

LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Governor Rick Snyder is facing stiff opposition even from his own party when it comes to his plans for raising money to fix the state's roads. Yesterday, for example, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville joined the chorus of those saying that a 14-cent-per-gallon gas hike plus a 60-percent increase in vehicle registration fees add up to more than citizens can shoulder.

The governor, who states that he's open to other ideas, says the state needs to raise an additional one-point-two-billion dollars a year to repair the roads.
