UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) - In high school sports last night, there was just one varsity event on the local scene and it was a Branch County girls basketball Big Eight Conference matchup with Quincy pulling out a 42-to-35 win at Union City. The halftime edge went to Quincy 19-to-18 and they were able to take a 31-to-26 lead into the final period before posting the seven point victory and a sweep of the season series with Union City. Katie Santi had 18 points in the win while Andrea Ferrin added 11 as the Lady Orioles improved to 3-and-14 overall and 2-and-11 in conference play. Union City is now also 2-and-11 in the league and 4-and-13 overall.

Last night’s reserve hoops action included Coldwater’s boys and girls teams being swept by Gull Lake. In the boy’s contests at Gull Lake, the Cardinals dropped the j-v game 51-to-46 with 16 points for Nate Waterbury and 10 for Luke Beckhusen.
