Fourth-ranked Michigan survived a challenge from a scrappy Penn State team that’s winless in the Big Ten and beat the Nittany Lions 79-to-71 yesterday afternoon at Crisler Center. The Wolverines scored the final four points of the first half to square it at 32-32 at the break and then opened up a 9-point lead in the second half.
Penn State cut the deficit back to one point with just over 9 minutes remaining before Michigan was finally able to seize control of the game. The Wolverines were coming off a humbling 75-to-52 loss at Michigan State on Tuesday. Trey Burke scored 29 points and Glenn Robinson III added 21 with 10 rebound as Michigan improved to 9-and-4 in the Big Ten and 22-and-4 overall. Also yesterday in the Big Ten, 20th-ranked Wisconsin was a big winner at home over number-13 Ohio State 71-to-49
