COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Sometimes, it’s not an easy call when it comes time for school officials to decide if winter weather conditions warrant the cancellation of classes. In the Branch County area overnight, there was a period of moderate snowfall accumulating 2-to-3 inches with potentially hazardous driving conditions and reduced visibilities. Union City, Tekonsha, and Athens schools and St. Mary’s School in Bronson were among those calling off classes today.
In Coldwater, some parents were complaining about the decision to stay open today. Coldwater Superintendent Dr. Tina Kerr, on the school district’s Facebook page, commented today that making the decision to delay or close school is always a challenge. She indicated that while it was slow going this morning, they were able to safely get everyone in their buildings. Kerr added that they are always mindful of their young drivers and try to make good decisions regarding their safety. Ultimately everyone has an opinion regarding such decisions, says Kerr and all they can do is make the best decision with the information that is available while also appreciating input from the students’ families.
