Jimmie Johnson rallied to win his second career Daytona 500 on Sunday as the five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion held off Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the final lap. Johnson also won the Great American Race in 2006. Fifty-four-year-old Mark Martin finished in third, followed by reigning Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski and Ryan Newman.
Pole sitter Danica Patrick finished in eighth place. The 30-year-old became the first woman ever to lead a lap at the Daytona 500 and also became the 13th driver to lead a lap in both the Indy and Daytona 500. Patrick led a total of 6 laps yesterday at Daytona.
Race two of the Sprint Cup season is coming up Sunday with the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.
