KALAMAZOO (WKZO)-- It may be the first conclusive proof that the Kalamazoo Promise is actually motivating students to do better in school.

Michelle Miller Adams delivered an update on the Upjohn Institutions, comprehensive studies on the results of the Promise on students and on the community to the Kalamazoo Rotary this afternoon.

She says they crunched the numbers and they are positive.  They have seen improvements in behavior, and increase in the number of credits attempted and a significant improvement in the grade point average of minority students.

She says they are also studying media and public perceptions of the School District and they have also improved since the introduction of The Promise.

None of this may seem surprising to anyone who has been around for a while and seen the system evolve, but its important that as the Grand experiment we call The Kalamazoo Promise continues, that other school districts that may want to copy it, have hard data to evaluate.
