COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Coldwater School District Chief Financial Officer Ben Engelter told the Coldwater Board of Education last night that Governor Snyder’s proposed K-12 school aid spending plan for next year is overall, probably good news for Coldwater.
Engelter said the school aid budget includes an equity bonus payment for districts that are at the minimum foundation allowance. That would bring Coldwater up to an even seven thousand dollars per pupil. That’s 34-dollars more than what the district is receiving for the current year.
However, Engelter says some districts are actually calling that a net loss because the state is also doing away with the best practices incentive, a 36-dollar payment, so in effect forfeiting two dollars. Yet, Engelter reminded the Board that since Lansing promised last year the best practices money would only be a onetime payout, Coldwater wasn’t counting on it and didn’t include it in the 2013-14 budget, and in the end, they will look at the 34 dollar equity bonus as an increase.
