DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA (WKZO) -  A mid-Michigan couple in their 60’s required treatment at a Medical Center in Daytona after they were caught in that shower of debris that washed  over the crowd during the Daytona 500 on Saturday.

Steve and Gaylene Johnson of Leslie, Michigan suffered mostly cuts and bruises when they were hit by a flying chunk of metal when one of the cars was thrown up in to the safety fencing right at the end of the race.

They received a visit from racecar driver Tony Stewart,  who won Saturday’s Nationwide series race.
