Michigan could feel impact of sequester cuts in education

WASHINGTON (WKZO) -- Education officials are warning about the effect sequestration cuts will have on federal education programs across the country.

The National Education Association said the nearly three-billion dollars in cuts to education would cause services to be eliminated for millions of students.  The public education advocacy group says the biggest impact will be on the most vulnerable students.  It says sequestration cuts would slash funding for special education and Head Start programs.

A release from the AFL-CIO says a Senate Appropriations Committee report shows the potential impact in Michigan could mean over seven-hundred Head Start jobs lost with over three-thousand fewer children served.  They also say the report shows cuts could mean over six-thousand fewer teachers in Michigan, impacting over 110-thousand students.
