KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO) --Palisades Nuclear power plant opponents have been around since they first fired up the reactor decades ago. Now some of them are trying to mobilize to generate enough support to close the plant once and for all.
Kevin Kamps, who works for Beyond Nuclear, says two other Energy Plants may be closed soon because of public pressure and they would like to have Palisades join that list. Kamps says it’s an accident waiting to happen, and if it goes, it will take most of S.W. Michigan with it.
They say the last two years of frequent reactor shut downs and other problems should be a tip off that it’s overdue for decommissioning. Another meeting will be held at the South Haven Library this Saturday.
