COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - The National Weather Service snowfall measurement storm report for Coldwater with the two day total for Tuesday and Wednesday shows nine inches of snow piled up. It’s one of the larger storm totals in the area and some school districts in Southwest Michigan are beginning to run out of snow days.
Martin Ackley with the Michigan Department of Education says that each district is allowed six extra days off per year, whether it be for weather, the flu, or whatever else. When a district goes over the limit, the missed days have to be made up at the end of the academic year, something which Ackley believes most don’t mind doing. He says most districts know that students deserve 170 days of instruction if not more every year and that their education should not be limited because of snow days in the winter
