LANSING (WKZO) -- Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley has signed 50 bills into law, acting on behalf of Governor Rick Snyder who is vacationing out of state. The legislation includes creating the charge of first-degree arson for persons intentionally setting fire to an occupied building that results in injuries, which will be punishable by up to life in prison.
Other measures requires crime victims to be notified within 24 hours if a suspect escapes custody and people who fail to report a dead body to authorities can now be charged with a misdemeanor. Those not reporting a body to hide the death or the cause of death could now face a felony charge.
