UNDATED (WTVB) - Do you know a teacher who is out of work? Local governments across the country have just gotten rid of more than 11-thousand jobs in public schools. The monthly unemployment report from the Labor Department includes numbers on government jobs, which are now at their lowest level in more than seven years.
Most of the job losses were through layoffs of teachers and other school employees. For more than a year, job gains in the private sector have consistently contrasted what's been happening in the public sector. Since the summer of 2008, local governments have cut about 300,000 teaching and other school jobs.
