UNDATED (WKZO) – As the numbers of flu cases continue to rise across the United States, health officials in the state of Michigan are encouraging families to get their flu shot.

Jim Haveman, director of the Department of Community Health, spoke with Michael Patrick Shiels on Monday about the growing concern of flu cases in the state. Currently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have estimated that more than a third of the country is on the verge of epidemic levels of flu cases. In the state of Michigan alone, it has been reported that three children have died due to flu symptoms contributing to the total 18 deaths nationwide.
