DETROIT (WKZO) -- A Detroit musician's prized and classic Gibson guitar did not entirely survive a Delta flight from Buffalo to Detroit intact. Dave Schneider, the lead singer of the band the LeeVees says he always flies with the classic 1965 Gibson ES-335 as carry on luggage, to make sure it isn't abused in transit.
The guitar which was made in Kalamazoo at the Gibson plant on Parsons, is worth about $10,000.
When he got to the gate in Buffalo, they refused to let him take it on board, even when he offered to buy the guitar a seat of its own. He says the Delta staff insisted he check it in as baggage.
Schneider says that when it came to reclaim his luggage and the Guitar, it got jammed in the works. It took the delta staff nearly an hour to free it.
He says the Guitar suffered over 19-hundred dollars damage but the airline would only reimburse him $1000, so he plans to appeal his case to Delta C.E.O. Richard Anderson.
