WHITE PIGEON, MI (WTVB) - Icy roads that slicked up in spite of readings in the upper 30’s caught many drivers off guard yesterday morning and sent many of them sliding into ditches. There were several minor injury crashes in Branch County.
The worst of the accidents happened in neighboring St. Joseph County where two men were killed and a third injured. Sheriff’s deputies say that a van carrying 7 men from Indiana to a construction site in Three Rivers slid off Fawn River Road and crashed, into a small grove of trees, and rolled over around 6:40AM yesterday. Dead at the scene were 48-year-old Dan Graber and 50-year-old Chris Eicher. A third man was airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. His name and condition were not released. The accident remains under investigation and the driver, 30-year-old Kirk Miller of Keystone, Indiana could be facing charges, or at least a citation for driving too fast for conditions.
