New Michigan legislators sworn in Wednesday in Lansing

by
State Representative Jase Bolger (R-Marshall)
State Representative Jase Bolger (R-Marshall)

LANSING (WKZO) --   The first day by tradition in Lansing is supposed to be a day of cooperation and bipartisanship, as new and old members are sworn in,  but there were signs of lingering resentments and anger.

There were fewer protestors but they made their priority clear. Republicans did not challenge the seating of Democrat Brian Banks who has a few felonies on his record as a young man.

Democratic minority leader Tim Greimel called on his colleagues not to vote against Jase Bolger for speaker.  Two did anyway.

Bolger called on everyone to set aside the past and look to the future.  Democrats have more members coming into this session, still not enough to claim a majority, but perhaps enough to require more bipartisanship.
