LANSING (WKZO) -- Governor Snyder has scheduled a May 7th special election in Genesee County for a vacant state Senate seat.

Senator John Gleason resigned last month after being elected Genesee County clerk.  If needed, a primary election will be held on March 12th.

Snyder said he wants the election in the spring rather than waiting until August because he doesn't want voters in the 27th Senate District to be without a representative for nearly a year.
