DETROIT (WKZO) -- The federal government will give 25-million dollars to the M-1 Rail project in Detroit.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is expected to make the announcement next Friday.  LaHood will also be in Detroit Monday for the North American International Auto Show.

State lawmakers passed legislation last month to establish a regional transit authority, which Washington had said was needed before federal dollars would be allocated to the light rail project.
