High School Hoops: Coldwater swept by Gull Lake; Bronson sweeps Centreville; Quincy girls win


UNDATED (WTVB) - It was a busy Friday night on the local high school sports scene:


(at) Gull Lake 61, Coldwater 28

Coldwater was shut out in the first quarter of their SMAC East boys basketball game at Gull Lake 16-0, which set the tone for the rest of the night as the Blue Devils dominated the Cardinals 61-28. Coldwater shot just 13% from the field in the first half, finishing with a field goal percentage of 18.9%. For the second consecutive game, Jordan Eddy was our McDonald's Player of the Game; his game-high 14 points accounted for half of Coldwater's point total. The Cardinals drop to 5-5 overall, 2-4 in the SMAC East as they prepare for next Friday's game at Sturgis.

Bronson 68, (at) Centreville 58

Bronson picked up their first St. Joe Valley win of the season with their 68-58 triumph at Centreville. Jake Gallup led all scorers with 15 points, while Mark Robinson had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Chase Carpenter and Mason Friedel each scored 10 as the Vikings improve to 2-8 overall, 1-2 in league play.


(at) Gull Lake 35, Coldwater 21

Coldwater's girls basketball team also had trouble finding the basket, shooting 17.6% from the field in their 35-21 loss at Gull Lake, despite outscoring the Class A honorable mention Blue Devils 8-7 in the second and third quarters. Meghan Schorfhaar led the Cardinals with 6 points and 9 rebounds; they fall to 3-7 overall, 2-4 in the SMAC East.

Bronson 34, (at) Centreville 17

Bronson used an 11-2 second quarter to propel themselves to a 34-17 win at Centreville. Kassidy Bystry led all scorers with 9 points, while Skyler Sobeski added 7 as the Vikings improve to 6-4 overall, 2-1 in the St. Joe Valley.

(at) Quincy 34, Union CIty 31

Quincy beat their cross-county rival Union City 34-31 behind 7 points and 5 rebounds from Sarah Ward and 6 points apiece from Bailey Knaack and Andrea Ferrin. The Orioles and Chargers are both 2-7 overall, 1-5 in the Big 8.

(at) Colon 58, Tekonsha 28

Tekonsha lost at Colon 58-28 to drop to 3-6 overall, 1-3 in the SCAA. Mackenzie Norman led the Indians with 14 points, while Katie Jenkins added 11.
